72nd Annual Awards Selection Process
The following procedures for the Celebrate Corvallis selection process were adopted by the Chamber Coalition Board of Directors in 2007. The purpose of each selection committees is to choose the winner for each award in the categories identified below.
Facilitators:
The role of the Facilitator is to communicate with Chamber staff, set a date and time for selection committee meetings, contact and, when needed, identify selection committee participants with the Chamber Executive Director and Board, disseminate information and distribute materials to selection committee members, facilitate selection meetings, collect materials, forms, ranking sheets, ballots and other information from selection committee members, and deliver information including winner to Chamber staff.
CIVIC AWARDS SELECTION COMMITTEE:

The selection committee will include:
If the immediate past recipient is not available, the individual from the year previous should be asked, this pattern should continue until an individual is willing to commit to serving on the appropriate selection committee.

PEOPLE'S CHOICE:
The Corvallis Chamber will not publish nor provide the names of individuals serving on selection committees, however, selection committee members may, by the nature of the position they represent, be self evident (i.e. previous year recipients).

- Jr. First Citizen (age 18-41)
- First Citizen (age 42-65)
- Senior First Citizen (age 66+)

- Immediate Past Jr. First Citizen recipient
- Jaycees Board President (or their appointed representative)
- Immediate Past Sr. First Citizen recipient
- Elected official or volunteer specialist
- Someone new to the community within 6 months

- Patron of the Arts Award
The selection committee will include:
- Immediate Past Patron of the Arts recipient
- Elected official
- Art Center Board President (or their appointed representative)
- Theatre Arts Representative
- Band/Choir Arts Representative
BUSINESS AWARDS SELECTION COMMITTEE:
Makes selections for the following awards:
- Robert C. Ingalls Business Person of the Year Award
- Small/Large Business of the Year Award
- Entrepreneur of the Year Award
The selection committee will include:
- Immediate Past Entrepreneur of the Year recipient
- Immediate Past Business Person of the Year recipient
- Immediate Past Large Business of the Year recipient
- Immediate Past Small Business of the Year recipient
- Chamber Board Chair (or their appointed representative)
- Someone Brand New to the Community within 6 months
COMMUNITY / NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR COMMITTEE:
Makes selections for the following awards:
- Community Organization / Non-Profit of the Year Award
The selection committee will include:
- Immediate Past CO/NP of the Year Award recipient
- Immediate Past First Citizen
- Elected official
- Service Club President (Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis)
- Someone brand new to the community within 6 months
SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD SELECTION COMMITTEE:

Makes selections for the following awards:
- Sustainable Business of the Year Award
The selection committee will include:
- Immediate Past Sustainable Business of the Year recipient
- Sustainability Coalition Chair (or their appointed representative)
- Elected official
- City of Corvallis Sustainability Coordinator
- Environmental Center Representative
Selection Committee Criteria and Requirements:
- Individuals cannot be nominated for an award in which they will be deliberating.
- Individuals cannot deliberate on candidates whom they have nominated for an award.
- Individuals must commit to reviewing all nominations for each award within a category.
- Individuals must commit to participating in the ranking of each nomination in the identified process and participating in the activities of the selection committee.
- Individuals must state any potential conflict of interest.
- Individuals must agree to keep selection information and award winners confidential until after the awards are announced at Celebrate Corvallis.
First Round Selections:
- Anyone nominated for an award will be asked not to participate in the selection process
- The compilation of responses will be provided to selection committee members prior to the first meeting.
- First round selections will be made based on the identified criteria by selection committee members who agree to participate and are willing to review the materials carefully.
- Individual selection committee members should rate nominees prior to participating in the selection committee meeting (Second Round).
Second Round Selections:
- The goal of the Second round selections is to identify the recipient/winner.
- Selection committee members will share their scores for every nominee in each award category.
- If a candidate receives the first position vote from 75% of the committee, they will be named the recipient. If a candidate does not receive at least 75% of the votes the selection committee will identify a method of selection that is fair and equitable. Each selection committee member will be encouraged to participate fully in the discussion until a decision is reached. Secret ballots are not allowed.
PEOPLE'S CHOICE:
- Public vote will carry 75% of the vote
- Must be a Chamber member in good standing
